Systems-Led Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship

  • CEID Lecture Hall 15 Prospect Street New Haven, CT 06511 (map)

Do you want to rethink how we tackle systemic problems, and what role you might play in that process? In this session, Yale SOM lecturer Daniela Papi-Thornton will explore systems-led leadership and introduce you to the Impact Gaps Canvas, a systems mapping tool to help you better understand your chosen challenge and identify ways to contribute to addressing it. Daniela will also share lessons learned from from running a social enterprise and an education organization in Cambodia, as well as her work at Oxford’s Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship. All are welcome to attend this workshop, but is particularly tailored for those who have an issue or challenge in mind that they’re particularly interested in addressing—the session will provide structures both for researching the issue and finding high-leverage opportunities for intervention.

This workshop is part of the Innovator's Toolkit, a series of free workshops focused on key skills for innovation. The series is presented by the Yale Collaborative on Social Entrepreneurship.

Daniela Papi-Thornton integrates emerging market entrepreneurial experience in Cambodia, with educational content design experience as the former Deputy Director of the Oxford’s Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship. Her report called Tackling Heropreneurship has been widely referenced in the social impact education sector. From that research she designed a tool called the Impact Gaps Canvas, as well as a series of programing initiatives to help people think like system-led leaders. Her TEDx talk on Reclaiming Social Entrepreneurship highlights some of that thinking. She has also been active in rethinking volunteer travel, and has a forthcoming book on Learning Service due out in 2018. She has taken her training and workshops to universities around the world and she now lives in Boulder, Colorado, where she teaches at Watson Institute, works as an educator and consultant, and learns daily from her son, Skye.
